Our proposal for Sorrell Street draws inspiration from the unique interplay between the dynamic City of Parramatta CBD, located south of the river, and the distinct suburban neighbourhoods to the north. The site boasts exceptional views toward the city, encompassing landmarks such as the future Powerhouse Museum and the vibrant riverfront. Conceptually and physically aligned with the river, the project site serves as a bridge between these urban and suburban contexts.
Strategically positioned on the northern banks of the Parramatta River, the site offers a rare perspective. It allows the towers to be oriented to frame the city’s skyline, rather than being within it, looking outward. This orientation delivers unparalleled amenity for residents while also enhancing the project’s market value.
At ground level, our proposal envisions an inclusive, accessible, and safe public realm rooted in Country and the site’s rich pre-colonial history, its native species, proximity to water, and the seasonal harvesting of aquatic life.
Our response integrates these stories through a rewilding of the site, embedding native vegetation, thoughtful water management strategies, and opportunities for storytelling in the form of public art. These elements create an enriching public domain, a welcoming and sociable ‘third space’ nestled between the towers.
